Stuart Anderson

Stuart Anderson is known for his bronze sculptures of animals, and also works from the human figure. In the last few years he has concentrated on the elegant and vital forms of greyhounds and horses, and also works from more unusual but sculpturally interesting subjects such as goats. He works in clay or wax and casts his sculptures into bronze himself, using the lost wax process.

He studied at Winchester School of Art and in 1990 and took a postgraduate diploma in bronze casting and sculpture at the RCA London. He has exhibited widely throughout England and also in the USA and has a worldwide following.

Stuart always wanted to be a sculptor and learnt about bronze casting in his teens. He cast sculptures in lead, melted down in a saucepan on his mother's stove, whilst still at school! He built his first bronze-casting furnace in his parents back garden in 1991. A skill taught to him by Tissa Ranasinghe the Master Founder at the Royal College of Art Kensington. Stuart would never let anyone else cast his work as he feels it is an integral part of the creative process.

He prefers to sculpt from life with the model in front of him be it a greyhound, a goat or a human. He loves horse riding and finds it a good way to feel the anatomy of the horse. Stuart has had many commissions including a life-sized standing horse bronze, for Lord and Lady Archer, completed in 2005.
