Michael James
Michael James was born in Staffordshire in 1959. He studied at the Royal Academy of Arts, London as a postgraduate student specialising in figurative sculpture. Michael works from life creating the original sculpture from clay and casting it into bronze, and uniquely patinating each sculpture. The process is wholly under his control allowing him to enhance and refining the final image.
The bronze sculpture, whether the large dramatic pieces or the quiet stillness of the smaller intimate studies, retain the initial fresh qualities and simplicity of the first, inspired clay sketches and studies from the live model that inform the final work. His life long obsession is with the figurative image he describes as "a muse ever beckoning ever retreating". He is an artist of substance working at the height of his powers. His work is essentially individual, intricate and beautiful.
Michael's sculpture is in public and private collections throughout the world including: Patrick Lichfield, former chairman of the Arts Council, Lord Gibson and the NatWest Bank.
